Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to use Caravango?
No. Caravango has no accounts, sign-ups, or passwords. One person creates a trip and shares an invite code or link; everyone else joins from their own phone.
How much does Caravango cost?
Caravango is free. There are no purchases or subscriptions in the current version.
Which devices does it work on?
Caravango is an iPhone app and requires iOS 17 or later, with Apple Maps available in your region. There is currently no Android or iPad version.
How do invites work?
The trip host shares an invite code or link. Enter the code on the My Trips screen (or open the link) to request to join; the host approves who’s in. Treat invite codes as private — anyone with the code can ask to join.
How many people can join a trip?
The current version supports up to 5 participants per trip and one active trip at a time per device.
Who can see my location?
Only the participants of a trip you've joined, and only when you choose to share. Live-location sharing is off until you enable it, it's controlled per trip, and you can turn it off at any time. Trip location data is deleted from our servers when the trip ends. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Why is my ETA wrong or not updating?
ETAs come from Apple Maps route calculations and depend on your location permission, network coverage, and traffic data. Check that location sharing is enabled for the trip and that Caravango has location permission in iOS Settings. ETAs are estimates — see the Terms of Use.
What does the emergency update do?
It immediately notifies the other participants of your trip that you need help. It does not contact emergency services. If you're in danger, call your local emergency number (for example, 911 in the US) first.
How do I delete my data?
Trip location data is deleted automatically when a trip ends, and you can clear ended trips from your device in Settings → Clear Trip History. For a full deletion request, email privacy@caravango.app from the device that uses Caravango, including the diagnostic info from Settings → Diagnostic Info.
Can I use Caravango while driving?
Set up your trip before you depart, and don't interact with the app while driving — use it hands-free or have a passenger operate it. Status updates are designed to be one tap for passengers, and arrival detection works automatically in the background.
